Ontario has passed the COVID-19 Putting Workers First Act. The legislation fills some gaps in the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit program, ensuring employees have access to three paid sick days for reasons related to COVID-19.
New COVID-19 workplace guidance: vaccines & rapid antigen test screening
Ontario has released new guidance about how COVID-19 vaccinations and rapid antigen screening can help keep workplaces safe. As the province expands vaccination efforts and as more workplaces use rapid antigen screening, all Ontarians need to stay diligent and employers must continue to ensure that public health and safety measures are maintained in the workplace.
It’s important that employers create safer spaces for meals and breaks, consider how to ensure physical distancing, capacity and time limits, and good ventilation in lunchrooms. On April 23, Ontario amended the Reopening Ontario Act to require that when removing their masks to eat or drink, workers can maintain a two-metre distance or are separated by an appropriate barrier, indoors and out.
Ministry experts continue to host webinars to answer questions and provide information related to COVID-19 for workers and employers. Log on to better understand rights and obligations under the Employment Standards Act (ESA) and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
