Elevating Black Voices

Elevating Black Voices February 24, 2022

6:30pm – 8:00pm

This presentation will introduce attendees to the concept of Anti-Black racism and will review anti-racism and related approaches. You will also learn about the experience of some Black Canadians (children and families) and how Anti-Black racism affects their lived experience, which includes parenting (for parents and guardians) and early childhood development (for children). Additionally, Dr. Anita Ewan, will share how an anti-racism framework informs their practice while also speaking about how Anti-Black racism is influential to the work dynamic of Black Educators.  Finally, attendees will also be introduced to various strategies RECE’s can use to resist Anti-Black racism in the field of Early Childhood Education and Care, and will be encouraged to initiate thinking about what you can do as an Early Childhood Education and Care practitioner to support Black families, and to resist Anti-Black racism in the field.
Facilitator: Dr. Anita Ewan
