Be The Light – Mary Tabak

Did you know that being like a lighthouse has its benefits? On an island, all alone, listening to the waves come in and out, sound good to anyone? Me too!

In these times, it may seem difficult for all of us to find our way through the darkness. Join Mary for a short, honest and inspirational talk to hear about 3 concrete ways that you can be the light in the lives of children every day. You are so important in shaping how children will remember these times. Let’s be more like a lighthouse and light the way.

Building Relationships and Connection through Clay  – Marianna Arcila and Shannon Speers

Join artists Shannon and Mariana from ACT-Artists and Children Together in exploring our human connection to the earth, using clay. Where does it come from and why do we want to explore it? Can exploring the states of clay deepen our connection to the earth, ourselves and our own wellness?
Come with us on a journey into clay from wet to hard, crumbled to liquid and see why clay is a catalyst to building relationship

Relationships with Nature – Diane Kashin

How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years is described as a resource about learning through relationshipsThis session will examine how educators can cultivate children’s authentic and caring relationships to the world around them. All children should have opportunities to experience nature every day. There is ample research to suggest that connecting to nature contributes to children’s mental, physical, emotional, spiritual health and well-being. By examining the research and the theories that support nature connections, participants in this webinar will be well positioned to consider the many four seasonal opportunities they can provide for children in their practice. These play-based experiences can help children develop a sense of belonging and connectedness to their local community, the natural environment, and the larger universe of living things. As the famous environmentalist, Rachel Carson, said, “If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement, and mystery of the world we live in”. Be that adult and be there for families to help them recognize the importance of relationships to nature. As childhood is increasingly becoming an indoor culture, we owe it to children and to the world to build our relationships to nature.
